I have been intrigued for some time by the Berluti Swann Club that meets to polsih shoes with champagne. While a bit silly perhaps on the surface, it seems like an interesting event for bringing together fans of quality clothes in a fun social environment.

Does anyone know a member?

Is the club by Olga's invitation only?

Are there meetings in the U.S. as well?

Does champagne actually work well for polishing?

Does champagne actually work well for polishing?

Only under the light of a full Paris moon.

Berluti on the Swann Club:

Often at Maison Berluti relationships are formed around the language of shoes. While examining shoes, they entertain one another with their plans, fantasies and dreams, and always with a constant glimmer of amusement in their eyes.

“Why not extend such an enjoyable experience therefore?” This was the question behind inventing a club for evening gatherings. It was to be called “Swann” in honour of the Proust hero who epitomised elegance and romanticism. The first soiree was held at the Hotel Crillon in 1992. Olga was joined by twenty friends; the subject – the aesthetics of shoes – was discussed from the standpoint of pure reason. Then the guests went to work – removing tablecloths, taking polishes out of containers, and rolling small squares of fine Venetian linen around their fingers. Now in stocking feet, they placed their shoes on the table and began to massage the leather. A little water for the polish? Heavens, no! Nothing but Dom Perignon would do. Thus, a very untraditional tradition was established.

Luxury is well known, and is nurtured every now and then with excesses.

At the very least this is superb marketing. I suspect there might be some real movers in the club.

You know, I wonder if a group shoe polishing led by an expert might make for an interesting social event at the Excellence meet this March?

A trip to Lobb's or have the gentlemen from Vass demonstrate while showing off a pair of their finest...am I crazy?

Do not inquire as to how many members of this Forum have watched in rapt attention as Alex from Edward Green carefully polishes his wares at Edward Green's trunk shows. :o

Ed Meier has a DVD that deals with polishing shoes and their production. It is a really nice DVD but unfortunately did not tell me too much news. As a reference its nice though and has tons of very high resolution shoe pictures (a.k.a. shoe porn). +

Buy a pair of Berluti and you might receive olga's DVD on shoe care. The last Hong Kong chapter meeting to be led by Rev. Olga was cancelled in mysterious circumstances...

Sometimes I have seen a salesman polishing shoes during shopping hours. It`s always a pleasure to watch.

In the Swann Club events you have some movers and shakers. It is more of a social gathering over a great meal, port and cigars, and then some shoe porn at the end. That was the London meeting I was invited to.

At the London event I went to about three years ago, i managed to do something wrong too much soap or something so Olga took charge; she had to call for vodka to recussitate my C&Js. I just wanted to drink it.

You'd think vodka would be too harsh...

Why doesn't olga and the swann club just smear dog sh*t on the shoes?
After all, feces is a traditional tanning material. :icon_smile_big:
